Dynamic global leaders have gathered at International House since 1924 to learn and address urgent issues of the day. This annual gathering of Open Space networkers, overlooking the glorious Hudson River, reminds us of our past – geologically and historically.

Decades of resonance from diverse groups and intentions infuse these environs, a living example of how people can live, learn, and connect with each other, regardless of politics, media spin, and other learned ideologies.

Who are we today? The teachings of Dr. King and the work of Open Space around the world align around similar values, principles and mission. https://osius.org/

The gathering’s inspiration and purpose are influenced by Harrison Owen’s book “The Practice of Peace”. Some of his words:

  • Peace is not the absence of chaos, confusion, and conflict.
  • …conflict in all its forms is an essential, albeit painful, element of life, and life without conflict is only a lobotomized shadow of its former self.
  • Peace then is a process, not a thing; a journey and not a destination.
  • True power lies with the incredible capacity of self-organizing systems to create Peace for themselves and with their environments.
  • Order appears in chaos. Nobody did it. Not a committee or executive in sight, but things definitely get organized at a new and higher level of complexity.

Practice of Peace

opens space for peace to emerge in each of us and for all our collectives

To exponentially ignite and inspire yourself and others to all that we imagine possible,

please join us.
