Fiesta del Grito de Independencia takes place each year in Austin on the South Steps of the State Capitol. (Sponsoring Organizations: Fiesta de Independencia Foundation, the Consul General of Mexico, the City of Austin, Univision, the State Preservation Board, and the Mexican American Legislative Caucus).
This family oriented celebration is alcohol free and features Mexican and Tejano music, Folklorico Dancers, and food vendor booths. The highlight of the evening is the re-enactment of “El Grito”, by the Consul General of Mexico.
[September 10 – 21 is Global Austin’s WELCOMING WEEK – a series of events throughout Austin that highlights the contributions of international visitors and immigrants to the community. These events will bring together foreign- and U.S.-born community members in a spirit of unity.
Welcoming Week, coincidentally, coincides with Peace Day Austin (9/11-9/21). Because the missions and interests of Global Austin and Peace Day Austin are comparable, several local organizations have come together to facilitate a city-wide celebration of the diversity that is Austin and the International Day of Peace. We are many organizations – with many activities and events.]
