Wobeon Launches New 2015 Texas World Cultures Conference
2015 Sessions Explore Interplay of Music, Migration and Conflict

AUSTIN, TX – WobeonFest, the Austin World Music and Jazz Fusion Festival, announced the addition of a new conference as a precursor to this year’s festival. The conference offers a new forum for the discussion of global cultural and economic issues. The conference will be held at Ironwood Hall, the same venue where the music festival will be held that weekend.

Ms Guneeta Singh Bhalla, Founder and Executive Director of the 1947 Partition Archive (http://1947PartitionArchive.org), will be a keynote speaker at the conference. The 1947 Partition Archive documents, preserves and shares eye witness accounts from all ethnic, religious and economic communities affected by the Partition of British India in 1947. Also presenting a keynote address is Ms Jenny Hoff (http://jennyhoff.com), Austin-based journalist and former KXAN Austin news anchor who has covered stories around the world. Ms Hoff recently returned to Austin after completing her MBA at the Berlin School of Creative Leadership.

The Conference also includes several panel discussions exploring the interplay of art and migration. Participants include Vieux Farka Toure and Herbert Kinobe (renowned musicians from Mali and Uganda, respectively, who will perform later that weekend at the World Music festival), Ms Mouna Hashem (Executive Director of Watan USA that focuses on Syrian humanitarian issues), and noted members of Austin’s global music, academic and humanitarian communities.
