United Way Winnipeg wishes to support the efforts of Doorways by collecting items for Home Starter Kits. Doorways works towards ending homelessness by using a ‘Housing First ‘approach to assist individuals to move from homelessness to independent/permanent housing. They coordinate an intake process for homeless individuals in partnership with five community organizations. The Home Starter Kits will help individuals with their transition out of homelessness.
Home Starter Kits will help support individuals as they transition into their first homes from homelessness. These kits will be comprised of various household items. We are requesting new and gently used donations of (but not limited to) the following:

– Toilet paper
– Dish soap
– Cleaning supplies
– Laundry baskets
– Tea towels
– Laundry detergent
– Brooms & dust pans
– Mops & mop pails
– Cutlery
– Alarm clock
– Pots
– Pans
– Shower curtain & rings
– Toilet cleaning brushes
– Garbage cans
– Garbage bags
– Toothbrushes & toothpaste
– Hand soap
– Can openers
– Spatulas
– Dryer sheets
– Kettles
– Toasters
– Cutting boards
