We need a narrative that speaks to the human complexity of the inner spirit, to international relations, to dialogues across multiple sectors of society – including healing humanity’s relationship with the Earth. We need an understanding of peace broad enough to embrace the deep spiritual realms, along with the grounded – and at times even hard-nosed – practical actions that can transform difficult situations locally and globally.
However, for all of us who long for more peace and harmony in our lives and our world, some days, the challenges we face can feel daunting.
In these times, it’s common to feel overwhelmed by the inner conflicts within ourselves – not to mention the pain generated by clashes with family members, friends, co-workers… and even strangers. And when we hear about bullying in schools, the senseless violence in our neighborhoods and the overwhelming number of refugees displaced from war, it’s so easy to feel helpless and fall into despair.
It can be difficult to know where to turn to find the inspiration and guidance we need to heal the conflicts in our own hearts, in our relationships and in our larger world.

This Year’s Campfire is BIGGER Than Ever
Urban Campfire is a unique and intimate gathering of women, where vulnerability, failure, tears, and laughter are celebrated.
It is our mission is to acquaint you with all the fiery, CRAVEtastic, adventurous, and beautiful parts of who you are. You have to know yourself before you can grow yourself, and at this year’s fire we are going to be doing both.
Take your seat, share your story with other like-minded women, and fill your connection craving over food, wine, and (of course) marshmallows. It is a ‘campfire’ after all.
This year, we’ve asked female thought-leaders and entrepreneurs from all over the country to share a story about a moment in their life when everything changed in a big way. In a TED style talk, they will be sharing these breakthrough stories, plus the most resonant advice they’ve received in their lives so far.
Five hundred women attended the very first Urban Campfire two years ago, and we feel sincerely grateful to the tight-nit and continuously expanding community that has grown out of that formative night.

The Why:
Legion volunteers have struggled for a few years to finish this remodel. With a generous donation from the West Seattle YMCA, Post #160 needs your help to finish the basement and paint the exterior for its 2nd Phase to be complete. 3rd Phase will be tackling the west wing of the building and turning it into an office space were veteran non-profits can set up shop and improve the lives of veterans, their families and the City of Seattle.

The documentary, Kindness is Contagious, will be the kick-off for Circles of Peace 2015: Compassionate Communities and the Compassion Games: Survival of the Kindest. Kindness Is Contagious is a feel-good documentary, narrated by Catherine Ryan Hyde, bestselling author of the book and film Pay It Forward. Kindness is Contagious is about being nice and the benefits of being nice. The film profiles cutting-edge scientists and best-selling authors, from Berkeley to Harvard and everywhere in between, as well as everyday people from all walks of life whose lives illustrate their incredible discovery: NICE GUYS FINISH FIRST! Guests will also be treated to exclusive showing of the trailer for the landmark series Belief that will air October 18-24 on OWN.
Participants choose a five day period, or one day, between September 11 and September 21 on which they will only spend $3.96 a day on food. That is the amount a single person on welfare receives for food a day. Participants will be showing solidarity with people on welfare, while learning what it’s like to struggle to put adequate food on one’s table.
2. Participants are encouraged to calculate what they would normally spend per day on food and donate the difference – or more – to Winnipeg Harvest.
3. On Monday, September 21 at 11 a.m. at Winnipeg Harvest, all participants will be encouraged to attend a group discussion and share their experience. Following the discussion, all participants will be invited to tour Winnipeg Harvest facilities. Participants will be invited to share their experiences widely and continue working with Winnipeg Harvest to end the need for food banks. All participants will be advised of volunteering and donating opportunities.

Doorways works towards ending homelessness by using a ‘Housing First ‘approach to assist individuals to move from homelessness to independent/permanent housing. Greater Toledo & NW Ohio are kicking off their games with action – cleanups in the Warehouse & Uptown Districts. Teams will use trash pickers, gloves, bags and compassionate elbow grease to spruce up two central city neighborhoods.
Mayor Greg Fischer, and the Flags4Vets Organization, cordially invite citizens of the Louisville area to participate in this solemn event to honor & remember those who lost their lives at The World Trade Center, The Pentagon, and those who were lost on Flight 93. Volunteers are needed to help place 2,977 U.S. Flags to honor those lost that day. Jefferson Street will be closed between 5th and 6th Streets, and 6th Street will be closed between Liberty and Jefferson and will be occupied by First Responder Vehicles.

Intentions
What are the objectives?
- On the evening of 9/11, this event is the opening ceremonies for the 2015 annual Compassion Games.
- The evening event will honor the spirit of unity and compassion that arose in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.
- The event will provide a positive, helpful way for people to remember and pay tribute to the 9/11 victims, and honor those that rose in service in response to the attacks.
- Compassion Games offer inspiring and creative ways to contribute to the community and will engage the community in playing in the games.
- We will experience and share on the report map compassionate actions taking place in the three dimensions of compassion for others, earth, and ourselves
- We will emphasize the King County Health Clinic and the campaign to eradicate veteran homelessness Operation: Welcome One Home
- We’re looking to sign up 10,000 new secret agents, recruit 150 new teams and serve 1 million people during the global games
We are also about to launch a new way to play that focuses on ending homelessness for veterans in partnership with the Mayor of Louisville and other cities around the country in support of the initiative called “Welcome One Home”. We will be introducing opportunities right here in the Salish Sea Region to play the games and shine your most compassionate self with various inspiring opportunities.
This Opening Ceremony will include a variety of vibrant compassion games activists icons, global activist, and performances that all share the secret ingredient of passion for The 2015 Annual Compassion Games!! AUSTIN, TX – WobeonFest, the Austin World Music and Jazz Fusion Festival, announced the addition of a new conference as a precursor to this year’s festival. The conference offers a new forum for the discussion of global cultural and economic issues. The conference will be held at Ironwood Hall, the same venue where the music festival will be held that weekend.
Ms Guneeta Singh Bhalla, Founder and Executive Director of the 1947 Partition Archive (http://1947PartitionArchive.org), will be a keynote speaker at the conference. The 1947 Partition Archive documents, preserves and shares eye witness accounts from all ethnic, religious and economic communities affected by the Partition of British India in 1947. Also presenting a keynote address is Ms Jenny Hoff (http://jennyhoff.com), Austin-based journalist and former KXAN Austin news anchor who has covered stories around the world. Ms Hoff recently returned to Austin after completing her MBA at the Berlin School of Creative Leadership.
The Conference also includes several panel discussions exploring the interplay of art and migration. Participants include Vieux Farka Toure and Herbert Kinobe (renowned musicians from Mali and Uganda, respectively, who will perform later that weekend at the World Music festival), Ms Mouna Hashem (Executive Director of Watan USA that focuses on Syrian humanitarian issues), and noted members of Austin’s global music, academic and humanitarian communities. Swimmers can choose from a 1/2 mile, 1 mile, or 2 mile swims, along with a kid’s splash for children and their families. You also have the option of captaining a team, or volunteering at the swim.
Since its founding in 1987, Swim Across America (SAA) has continued to lead the way in the fight against cancer, which affects countless people worldwide every year. Since its inception in 2009, SAA Seattle has been running a successful event on Lake Wahington. The fundraising minimum for this event is $300, but of course we encourage you to set your own higher goals if you like! All proceeds from your local fundraising go directly towards the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, UW Medicine, and Seattle Children’s Hospital. Because of past years’ successes, there is now even a lab named after Swim Across America at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance!

Parkinson SuperWalk is the largest national fundraising event for Parkinson Society Canada (PSC) and its regional partners. Approximately 14,000 people from coast-to-coast organize and take part in Parkinson SuperWalk. This year marks the 25th anniversary of this nationwide event.
Parkinson SuperWalk will take place on September 12 and 13, 2015 in 115 communities throughout Canada. Last year, with participation from supporters like you, we raised $2.9 million across Canada. Since 1990, we have raised more than $31 million for support services, research, advocacy and education.
Objective is to provide free weekly community meals, free produce market and social and cultural activities to low income earners, the homeless, and people living with mental and physical disabilities, in Kamloops. Also to encourage volunteerism and capacity building within communities of mental health, disabilities, homelessness, and low income earners.
Every Saturday dinner will be served at their new location St Vincent De Paul doors open at 10:30 am (coffee, snacks, social time) and meal served at 3:30pm.
This year, we are partnering with our friends at the Downtown Women’s Center (http://www.downtownwomenscenter.org/) and advocate to end homelessness for women.

The September Concert features the music and dance of Austin’s sister cities:
Adelaide, Australia; Angers, France; Antalya, Turkey; Koblenz, Germany; Lima, Peru; Maseru, Lesotho; Oita, Japan; Old Orlu, Nigeria; Saltillo, Mexico; Taichung, Taiwan; Xishuangbanna, China. This 5th annual September Concert is a celebration of peace and humanity through music. The Austin Sister Cities Committees are “citizen diplomats” and volunteers, who foster friendly relations and understanding between the citizens of Austin and our sister cities around the world and promote Austin’s educational, cultural, and economic presence in the international community.This event is free and open to the public!
Born in 2002 as a small, local grassroots effort, the September Concert has grown to global proportion with a mission to promote global peace. There are now over 200 September Concerts across the world. AUSTIN, TX – WOBEONFEST returns to Ironwood Hall in Downtown Austin this September, marking the third year of the homegrown festival with a global reach. In addition to the World Music Festival, the organizers have added a Jazz Fusion Festival to the 2-day gathering, which will feature drum legend Billy Cobham (of Mahavishnu Orchestra fame) and guitar great Scott Henderson on Sunday, September 13th. Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Toure, who is fondly referred to as the “Jimi Hendrix of the Sahara,” will headline the World Music Festival on Saturday, September 12th. Festival attendees can also participate in the pre-festival conference comprised of panel discussions and individual presentations specifically designed for internationally-minded Texans. Billy Cobham brings his Spectrum 40 quartet with jazz greats Dean Brown and Ric Fierabracci to the inaugural Jazz Fusion Festival. The band celebrates the music of Cobham’s first album and performs in the spirit of the rich 1970s Fusion era. Scott Henderson and his new trio with Travis Carlton and Alan Hertz will also be featured. Henderson is best known for his innovative work with fusion band Tribal Tech, and for his role with Joe Zawinul and The Zawinul Syndicate. Festival Founder Jakes Srinivasan speaks on the event’s new extension: “We are always looking at breaking new ground with the kind of music we curate. If you see the many, many shows and artists we’ve promoted and presented over the last 3 years, you’ll see that you can’t necessarily put these bands in neat boxes.”He elaborates, “All music is world music, as they say, and there’s a huge pool of great artists – even right here in our own backyard that are incredibly exciting to watch and hear, but for whatever reason don’t get the same share of voice or airplay as we think they deserve. World Music falls in that category, so does Jazz Fusion.” Jazz fusion is a progressive amalgamation of Rock and Jazz that blossomed in the ’70s and ’80s, and continues to have a tremendous global, yet simultaneously niche, following. Fans of legendary artists like Chick Corea, Miles Davis, and Weather Report continue to harbor their passion for jazz fusion even today. Of late, bands like Grammy®-winning Snarky Puppy are bringing new fans to this exciting genre. In 2014, Wobeon introduced Dallas-based jazz fusion band Funky Knuckles to festival fans and received great feedback. Producing separately-programmed days with single-day ticketing for each of the two genres allows both audience bases to get a full sampling of music closest to their interest. Local jazz guitarist Glenn Rexach, rising fusion stars Curious Android, and local group Collin Shook Quintet round out the lineup. Richardson Interfaith Alliance, Helping Agencies Serving Richardson, Feeding Children Everywhere, and CompassonateDFW are partnering to bring over 180 volunteers together to package over 20,000 meals that will be distributed to local food banks and pantries and to a location in Zambia which feeds thousands of children daily.
As we initiate our main event, packaging over 20,000 meals with Feeding Children Everywhere, the sponsors of the event want to recognize and honor our Richardson Texas First Responders – Police, Firemen, Emergency Medical Services, and local Veterans. Our hope is that the Mayor of Richardson will be present to initiate the entire afternoon event and recognize our first responders.

In celebration of the International Day of Peace and Austin’s Poems for Peace Initiative, Usha Akella will read from her new book ‘The Rosary of Latitudes.’ In THE ROSARY OF LATITUDES, poet, author and playwright Usha Akella investigates her Indian identity with place and travel through poems, prose and photographs. While the beads on her rosary come from different latitudes in Europe, the Americas, Asia and Australia, she has found a way to combine them in a harmonious collection that flows like water and sings in many voices. As she travels from country to country, Akella explores a wide range of cultural and spiritual matters, including the paradoxical nature of identity and the many-layered process one must face to reconcile the splintered parts of one’s self. Just as Pablo Neruda and Walt Whitman explored travel and place, THE ROSARY OF LATITUDES shows readers how travel has shaped and informed Akella’s literary outlook on life through language, rhythm and landscape. This reading is part of the Peace Day Austin activities. (Presented by the Austin Community College Arts and Humanities Division and Co-sponsored by the Austin Community College Peace and Conflict Studies Center).
The film is about one of the biggest water restoration projects in North America, and the themes of the film are at the intersection of, and dilemmas arising from the following topics: natural resources management, specifically issues around water, development discourse, environment and sustainability, human rights, relationships between indigenous and non-indigenous communities, inter-generational conflict, and community activism.

Tonight, Open Center co-founder and pioneer of the consciousness movement Ralph White will discuss his new memoir, The Jeweled Highway: On the Quest for a Life of Meaning. He will offer us a rare glimpse into how he embarked on a spiritual quest into a new worldview, the experience of opening to the mystical, and the contours of a life dedicated to the creation of a more sacred and ecological culture.
Ralph will share with us his early years in the Celtic world and gritty Northern England, his travels down Route 66, hitchhiking to Machu Picchu, and hiking across the Eastern Himalayas into Tibet. He will also speak on the resurgence of the Western Esoteric Tradition and on the global network of holistic centers and why they serve as focal points for the emergence of a saner and wiser world.

This religious and cultural group has been persecuted for their beliefs for hundreds of years and recently became prime targets of ISIS. Her topic will be “Save the Yazidis by Compassionate Action”.

“A River Between Us” depicts how 42 adversarial organizations came together to conserve the longest, most controversial river in America.
A brief talk on forgiveness, followed by a 20 minute meditation. All are invited to stay for tea after the meditation.

Adrian Farrell was appointed as Ireland’s first Consul General in Texas in September 2014. Ireland’s new Consulate is only the second foreign diplomatic representation in Austin.
In his remarks Farrell will discuss Ireland’s strong historic ties with the United States, and how the establishment of the new Irish Consulate in Austin will further strengthen Ireland’s future relations with Texas. As Ireland celebrates the 60th anniversary of its membership of the United Nations, Farrell will also highlight Ireland’s key foreign policy priorities and its global diaspora. Event attendees will also hear about Ireland’s EU membership, current social and political developments in Ireland and why the Irish economy continues to grow at a faster rate than in any other EU state.

Having conversations of different ways we can be more compassionate towards our peers and our community.

The Resilient Families Project provides educational experiences to strengthen families and promote resilience and wellness for children and parents experiencing homelessness. This project and its programs serve the residents of Wayside Christian Mission’s Hotel Louisville and Wayside Christian Mission’s Emergency Homeless Shelter. The Resilient Families Project (RFP) was established as a partnership of faculty from the University of Louisville’s Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences and staff at Wayside Christian Mission. We gratefully acknowledge support from the University of Louisville’s Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences and the University of Louisville’s Ideas to Action (i2A) Program and the Office of Community Engagement.
Our three programs take place from 6-8:30pm every Thursday at Hotel Louisville, and serve more than 100 family members. These programs aim to promote: (1) healthy attachment relations, (2) a sense of community / belonging, (3) interactive reading, and (4) school readiness (and readiness for the world!) in children and families.
(1) The Resilient Family Program (developed and led by Dr. Lora Haynes) is offered from 6-7pm on Thursdays, and provides a structured learning forum for children and parents to strengthen interactive reading, and engage in shared learning activities. The evidence-based practice of dialogic reading is employed, and carefully selected children’s storybooks are read aloud as a platform for promoting literacy and motivation toward reading, as well as sensitive, healthy interactions and positive attachment between caregivers and children. It is, furthermore, our mission to promote a strong sense of family (family matters!) and community caring (Compassionate Louisville! http://www.louisvilleky.gov/CompassionateCity/). It is our ultimate goal to improve school readiness (and readiness for the world) in these children and their families. Positive messages of resilience, mindfulness and compassion are conveyed in this community/family hour through a steady schedule of reading, music/singing, and dance/movement. We often have guest speakers from the Louisville community and from non-profit agencies who present their mission and needs to our families so that those in attendance are routinely asked to consider “how can I help?” and give back to the community. More than 100 parents and children attend and more than 18 University of Louisville students and 4 Hotel Louisville staff assist in the program.
(2) The Resilient Child/Adolescent Program (developed and led by Dr. Lora Haynes) is offered from 7-8:30pm on Thursdays, provides age-appropriate learning and enrichment activities including art, reading, homework and tutoring, music and dance, aimed at further promoting school-readiness and social/emotional skills. Typically more than 50 children attend. About 60% of children are under the age of five. More than 35 University of Louisville students and 3 Hotel Louisville staff assist in the program.
(3) The Resilient Parent Program (led by Dr. Lora Haynes and Valerie Mansfield, developed by Dr. Barbara Burns) is offered from 7-8:30pm on Thursdays and provides an empirically-validated strengths-based program focused on resilience and compassion, communication skills, and child management skills. Didactic material, discussion and reflection are enhanced by games, and crafts that underscore parenting strengths to promote strong and healthy parent-child relationships, child health and wellness. Interactive discussions on such topics as self-care and handling stress, discipline, self-esteem, building support networks, child development, compassionate listening, and communicating effectively. Typically 40-50 parents participate, and 7 University of Louisville students and 2 Hotel Louisville staff assist in the program.

This One People, One Earth Medicine Walk is a two day walk beginning on Saturday, Sept 19th, starting at Inwood State Park, ending the next day Sunday, Sept 20th in Central Park to join the the 14th annual Vigil For International Peace and Ecology at BandShell stage.(www.vigil4internationalpeace.org)

Information and background about the walk:
The One People, One Earth Medicine Walk and the International Day of Peace Vigil.
On each equinox and solstice we do a One People, One Earth Medicine Walk through Manhattan to the sacred locations of this island.This walk is a vigil to release the blocks from within ourselves, humanity and our planet. And in doing so, we seek to re-activate the original purpose of this island, which is held captive and buried under tons of concrete and capitol gain. Also, we are simultaneously paying homage to the ancestors of this land known as Lenape, who by historical accounts were a giving and loving people living in harmony with the land. Even in a city as dense as New York, we leap through the veil of the urban energy to go back and align ourselves with the original purpose of this island, which the Lenape people called, “Mannahatta” (meaning: “land of many hills”) Mannahatta was a natural wonder – a paradise of peace, love, health and harmonious living. The walking route:
This One People, One Earth Medicine Walk is a two day walk beginning on Saturday, Sept 19th, at Inwood State Park. We will start with morning sunrise prayer at the highest point in Inwood Park. We will walk from the park to the top of Broadway at 231st. We will walk down Broadway (Broadway is the Mohican Trail) We walk to 178 st. to get onto Riverside Park and carry our vigil through nature – down by the river, with trees and grass and plenty of places for bathroom stops. “The Lenape called the Hudson River Shatemuc, meaning “the river that flows both ways,” because the river alternates its flow from north to south along with the Atlantic tides. Shatemuc was an important water route for the Lenape who traded with other Native people living in villages along its banks.” If you click on the link, the photos will show just how beautiful a walk through what is closest to what it was when Manhattan was a paradise. Support vehicles, are welcome to follow along with food and water can follow along riverside drive and meet us at rest points which is every 60 blocks (3 miles). We will stop for 1 hour to eat lunch and walk until we reach the 66 st.
On Sunday,September 20th, the designated day of International Day of Peace, will continue walking along the bike trail down to Battery Park and then over the the National Museum for Native Americans and have closing ceremony in Bowling Green Park. From there we will shuttle over to Central Park to another sacred location known asSeneca Village, “the Black community that died so that Central Park can live.”
From there, we will carry all the higher frequencies we gathered from the walk of the island and pour them into the higher frequencies of the “Vigil for International Peace and Ecology” being held at Band Shell stage in Central Park. This is an event where people from all over the world will be gathered on this day to invoke a new planetary direction into our collective consciousness. Now in its 16th year, the Kamloops Children’s Arts Festival is a fun-filled, creative day of artistic, musical and theatrical activities and performances for children ages 2 to 12. The entire day is FREE for children and their families.
How does it work?
Children and their families may drop in at any time from 11am to 4pm to take part in the day-long festivities. The Kamloops Arts Council enlists artists and non-profit groups to facilitate interactive workshops in visual art, dance, music, theatre and more. Musicians, storytellers, actors and dancers – both professional headliners and local groups – take to the stage. Workshops include “rock school,” henna art, hip hop dance, printmaking, clay sculpture, theatre games, button-making, magic wand-making, and much more.
Associated with the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association we offer youth between the ages of 8-17 yrs an opportunity to experience flight in a typical general aviation aircraft.

Objective is to provide free weekly community meals, free produce market and social and cultural activities to low income earners, the homeless, and people living with mental and physical disabilities, in Kamloops. Also to encourage volunteerism and capacity building within communities of mental health, disabilities, homelessness, and low income earners.
Every Saturday dinner will be served at their new location, St. Vincent De Paul, doors open at 10:30am (coffee, snacks, social time) and meal served at 3:30pm.

2:00 PM – Peace Potluck Picnic: Bring the family, make origami cranes and be part of the global (Peace Crane Project). Write a poem/prose/song and perform it at 4pm.
6:30 PM – Open Mic night at the Ground Floor on the subject of peace and inclusion
7:30 PM – Concert by The Therapy Sisters
This hot meal program serves a nutritious dinner at Kamloops United Church every Sunday afternoon year round and is mainly a volunteer driven program. The dinners are provided without charge

The Scotiabank MS Bike -Thompson River Ride raises crucial funds for the MS Society of Canada, Kamloops and Area Chapter. All funds raised go towards finding the cause and a cure for multiple sclerosis, as well as funding community-based programs that help local people affected by MS to have a better quality of life.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the Unity-and-Diversity World Council (UDC) and the 70th anniversary of the United Nations. UDC was born during International Cooperation Year 1965, which was the highlight of the United Nations 70th anniversary. Peace Sunday Festival is being convened by the Unity-and-Diversity World Council in cooperation with Agape International Spiritual Center. In addition, there are numerous sponsors and co-sponsors.
This year’s events find much of our world in turmoil and unease. We hope that this Festival will provide inspiration, courage, and valuable tools for us to aid in the building of a sustainable peace on earth.

The vigil for international peace is a transformational grassroots effort dedicated to promoting peace through participation in music, art, poetry, dance and prayer. Our vision is to heal and bridge our lives and communities, to achieve alignment, and recognize the oneness in all.
The Vigil for International Peace and Ecology was inspired by the United Nations’ Resolution 55/282 designating September 21st of each year as an “International Day of Peace”. a full day dedicated to global ceasefire and non- violence. The original International resolution was passed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981 in resolution 36/67.

Join us as we do our part to help plant 50,000 trees nationwide during TD Tree Days. Locally, volunteers will plant 300 trees at Tournament Capital Park (5375 Yellowhead Highway, Kamloops) on Sunday, September 20. The event will run from 10:00AM – 1:00PM. In celebration of the International Day of Peace. we will are inviting various peoples and communities in Austin to unite, connect and walk in solidarity from the Capitol Building to Huston-Tillotson College, Schedule:
10:30am: Meet at the Texas State Capitol WEST LAWN (1110 Congress Ave.) gate on Colorado St. (between 12th & 13th St.)
10:30am-12 pm: Village Talking Circle
12-1 pm: Art making and lunch
1-3pm: Peace Walk starting at the Texas State Capitol, ending at Huston-Tillotson and Closing Circle.
Come out a walk in Peace to Honor The International Day of Peace 9-21 & 911 Day of Service. This is a non political or religious event. The idea is to have community walk together in community and friendship. All are welcome. The event is presented by the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Ethics.

Join us for a panel discussion of homelessness in our community and the solutions we can work toward together. Panelists will make brief presentations and then field questions from the audience.

We will affirm our commitment to continuing our compassionate efforts beyond the Compassion Games by gathering to celebrate our efforts over the 11 days. We will assemble care kits for the homeless which will be distributed locally to the homeless, including homeless vets. We’ll follow the service project with a celebratory potluck dinner.
