The vigil for international peace is a transformational grassroots effort dedicated to promoting peace through participation in music, art, poetry, dance and prayer. Our vision is to heal and bridge our lives and communities, to achieve alignment, and recognize the oneness in all.
The Vigil for International Peace and Ecology was inspired by the United Nations’ Resolution 55/282 designating September 21st of each year as an “International Day of Peace”. a full day dedicated to global ceasefire and non- violence. The original International resolution was passed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981 in resolution 36/67.
The 2015 Celebrating First Ladies Summits and Dinner came as a platform to bring women and others in governance, leadership position, peace initiatives and religion to discussion on sustainable roles of women in governance and leadership to global peace. The Summits is proven to recognize the principles of integrative peace building initiatives and explore roles of women to world peace.
Reflecting on this, the summit will generate answers to the question:” Can there be world peace without women in a Post 2015 Sustainable Development Agenda” through discussion on the theme: “Women and the Search for Global Peace and Development”.
The outcome will result in clear-cut, time-bound demands for implementation to the office of First Ladies of UN member States, world leaders, religious leaders, commitments by civil societies in integrating “Women Council Peace Rethinking Model Initiative” for Global Peace
EVERYONE WILL HAVE AN EXPERIENCE- either with an Ascended Master, an Arch Angel, a past life experience, an out of body experience in the inner light, or you will have some other experience special for you…
David Young is a twice Grammy Nominated musician who plays two renaissance flutes at one time in harmony. He has recorded 57 albums and sold over 1,000,000 copies. He is a healer, channel, writer of three books, artist and it is said that more people have had out of body experiences while listening to his music than other musician alive today.

Whether people have been meditating a short time or for thirty years, attendees consistantly say they’ve had the most profound, spiritual experience of their entire life.
Marie Diamond, Fung Shui Master and speaker in the movie, “The Secret” came on stage after one of David’s performances and told the audience she just had “the most profound spiritual experience of her life.”
Barbara Hardie, writer of the book, “Creating Heaven on Earth”, well respected medium and angel channel from MA. who has been meditating for 25 years had a healing at her first event and shared that she had “the most high vibrational, spiritual experience of her life” at her second event. She has been to four events now and each one brought her to a higher level than she ever thought possible.
David has done over 100 Soul Activation workshops this year, traveling to three or four cities each week.
For the past two months, AT EVERY EVENT, people have consistently shared their experiences with either Buddha, Jesus, Lao Tzu, Quan Yin, or Mother Mary.
David’s wife Dawn has had nine experiences with Kali, the Goddess seen with six arms. Others have had experiences with Edgar Cayce, Gandhi, George Harrison, John Lennon, Ravi Shankar, and the Egyptian Goddess Isis. Although each experience is unique, many share that these great teachers have told them we are all One and we are equal and there is no need for the pedestals that mankind has put them on.
Three people at one event saw Jesus standing in the exact same place in the room and he gave each of them the same inner symbols.
Two women sitting next to each other at one event both described experiencing Quan Yin standing between them.
On separate evenings two people had the exact same experience with Buddha who brought them to this gigantic tree (The Tree of Life) that was so tremendous it was beyond their description of words.
At every one of these events at least ten people have shared reconnecting with their loved ones in Spirit.
A shy, introverted woman came to an event and shared that her entire family in Heaven lined up to greet her, over 20 souls.
Violetta, who has cancer has been visited six times by Jesus, George Harrison and John Lennon at events as they are helping her to heal. After living with 10 out of 10 horrible pain from her treatments the week before the last event she was pain free for 48 hours afterwards.
A woman with a son with Down Syndrome had a Soul to Soul experience where he was syndrome free on the inner and he explained why he had that disease in his current life.
David was given nine words to give to a woman, “I am Strong, I am Protected, I am Confident.” Afterwards she shared that Arch Angel Michael had come to her the previous week and gave her the same nine words and told her to write them down.
It is a privilege and sheer pleasure for David to share his music and this energy with the New York City and Jivamukti Yoga community.

In the wake of the controversy over the immigration ban, the story of World Citizen #1 Garry Davis is the perfect antidote. It goes to the heart of healing to the sense of fear and powerlessness that leads to trying to close in, restrict freedoms and build walls.
Now is the perfect time for “The World is My Country” to inspire us all to realize that greatness comes not by separation and fear of those who are different, but by we, the people, celebrating our diversity and forming a more perfect union – at the global level.

Sankofa: Reclaiming relevant indigenous cultural and ancestral values to make a case for nature-based solutions
The chieftaincy, elders and people of Funko community-located in the Western Region of Ghana- honored World Water Day by creating awareness about the need for circumspection when adopting vices or policies which consequently cause public health problems and are detrimental to the environment. Illegal/unsustainable mining – popularly referred to as “Galamsey”in the country- and fringe activities which indirectly empower the practice are examples of such vices.
The Funko community is close to the Ankobra river and, symbolic of the strong inter-connectivity still existent between most societies and their natural environment. This river is an important source of drinking water for many communities in the Western Region of Ghana- and beyond- but continues to be polluted through illegal mining activities. It flows at least 120 km south to the Gulf of Guinea (Atlantic) and is located very close to the western part of Axim, a commercial center of the river basin.
In celebrating this important day, we sought to highlight the important role some historic cultural practices (spoken word, dancing and drumming) and community dialogues can play in influencing the re-adaptation of relevant conservation values which were more commonly applied by the ancestors. Overall, the concept of Sankofa is espoused. Sankofa is a Ghanaian-originated cultural principle which literally means to take back what was lost in order to protect the future. This -arguably- manifests the tenets of sustainability. There are many of such doctrines in many communities across the world.
The principle teaches communities the importance of going back to their roots- and reclaiming worthy values- in order to move forward. For example, the indigenous and unadulterated local anthropological cognition reveres some key natural receptors – such as rivers, wetlands and forests- as deities. By tapping into the novelty of such values, the current mega trend of sustainability would be well anchored and in a way which significantly addresses most of the conservation, food security and sub regional stability challenges existent now. A cultural dance and community dialogue were among the activities undertaken to commemorate the day.
On World Water Day, the funding partner and collaborator for the performances –who is also the founder of Windhouse Resources Systems (WRS)- would reach out to stakeholders to solicit input on case studies concepts intended to be develop in order to make a stronger case for nature-based solutions. WRS is a boutique sustainability consultancy located in Ghana – West Africa.

EarthX Presents the World’s Largest Environmental Expo, Conference and Film Festival in Dallas
With a mission to connect the global community to create a sustainable world for all life and future generations, Texas-based nonprofit EarthX is hosting the world’s largest environmental expo, conference and film festival from April 13-22, 2018, at locations throughout Dallas.
The EarthX three-day expo, five-day group of conferences and 10-day film festival champions progress and innovation by bringing together environmental organizations, businesses, academic institutions, government agencies, interactive programming and thought leaders. The event also fosters celebration with interactive and immersive family entertainment, live music and sustainable food pavilions.
Founded in 2011 by Dallas-based environmentalist and businessman Trammell S. Crow, EarthX, formerly known as Earth Day Texas, began as an outdoor event spanning five blocks of Flora Street in the Dallas Arts District. It has grown to occupy approximately 1/2 million square feet of indoor and outdoor event space in Dallas’ historic Fair Park. In 2017, the event drew 116,000 attendees, 800 exhibitors, more than 250 speakers. Approximately 1,200 volunteers will be needed to put on the massive event this year. Visit earthx.org to register for the 2018 event and receive free admission.
“While we didn’t come up with the initial idea of a pro-business Earth Day, we ran with it and grew it into the world’s largest gathering of its kind,” said Trammell S. Crow, founder of EarthX. “International environmentalists, elected officials, investors, business leaders, educators and families are coming to EarthX in Dallas for an array of conservation-focused offerings, exhibits, films and conferences, where Earth is our common ground.”
Confirmed, renowned speakers in their areas of expertise for EarthX 2018 include astronaut Buzz Aldrin, Dr. Sylvia Earle, Mission Blue; James Baker, Former Secretary of State; John Kasich, Governor of Ohio; Susan Eisenhower, Presidential Blue Ribbon Nuclear Commission; Academy-Award winner Louie Psihoyos; Paul Watson, Sea Shepherd; mayors of Phoenix, San Antonio and other cities; Dr. Ved Chirayath, Director of Laboratory for Advanced Sensing in the Earth Science Division at NASA Ames Silicon Valley; as well as representatives from National Laboratories.
EarthX features five days of conferences from April 18-22. E-Capital Summit will convene mission-driven investors, incubators, accelerators, researchers and breakthrough clean technology innovators from around the world to form partnerships having substantial, positive impacts on profits, people and the planet. EarthxHack, a 24-hour event, is the world’s largest environmental hackathon, sitting at the intersection of innovation, technology and the environment. The platform will create groundbreaking solutions by utilizing the brightest technical minds of today focusing on the problems of tomorrow. Other conferences, including EarthxOcean, EarthxResponsibleOilandGas, EarthxBridge Summit and EarthxPolicy: Energy Done Right, will encompass educational, municipal and environmental efforts.
Exhibitors of EarthxExpo, taking place at Fair Park April 20-22, include The National Audubon Society, Greenpeace, and The Plastic Soup Foundation, a nonprofit focused on reducing ocean plastic from Amsterdam, NL. EarthX has partnered with Trees for the Future to plant as many trees as possible in five African countries during the expo as well as with The Great Seed Bomb and City of Dallas for the weekend-long Seed Bomb Blowout to help increase vital pollinator habitat here at home. In addition, Oncor will showcase the new Nissan Leaf with examples of EV charging stations, UPS is bringing its interactive education trailer on alternative fuel transportation, and TxDOT’s Don’t Mess with Texas Program offers an interactive virtual reality game about litter prevention.
EarthxExpo attendees can experience a wide range of educational and interactive activities for the whole family during the three-day event. A Blanket of Dust is a political thriller and a new addition to the Theater of Resistance. It is the story of Diana Crane, a modern day Antigone. The daughter of a US Senator whose husband has died in the World Trade Center, her subsequent ordeal in seeking justice for his murder ultimately drives her to the outer fringes of society. Struggling with facts that the government, the media, her family and her countrymen deny, she finally confronts them all with a harrowing act of sacrificial tragedy.
Connect for Peace is a public street happening for peace in honor of the International Day of Peace. We invite participants and passersby to connect with one another in a spirit of openness, spontaneity, and childlike innocence. A cross between performance art and a peace rally, these powerful events have touched the lives of people from around the globe.
We take a moment to connect for peace. We take a moment to really see the person in front of us. We say, “I see you” and are genuinely seen in return. The bungee cords physicalize the invisible connections between all people. As we realize how interconnected we are, peace is a natural outcome.
Amazing things happen at every Connect for Peace event. It touches something deep. Passersby stop to share intimate details of their lives. Strangers are moved to extraordinary acts of kindness. The premise is simple but the results are incredibly powerful.

Friday, Sept 21. 2018
Gather at 7:00 p.m. at The Festival Center, 1640 Columbia Rd., NW, Washington, D.C. for an evening featuring Campaign Nonviolence The centerpiece of this Week of Actions will be The Moment of Truth – The Campaign Nonviolence Convergence September 21-22 in Washington, DC. On September 21, we will gather, reflect and prepare. On September 22, we will assemble at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial, march to the White House, vigil, and take nonviolent action.
As we mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., we will march in the spirit of the prophetic declaration he made the night before he was killed: “The choice is no longer violence or nonviolence; it’s nonviolence or non-existence.” In this moment of truth, we will call on the nation to choose a culture of nonviolence free from war, poverty, racism, and environmental destruction.
Now is the moment of truth for taking action – and for recommitting to the power of truth itself, in light of the many false or misleading statements made by the administration. On September 22, we will take action for peace, economic equality, racial justice and environmental healing – and for a new spirit of truth and nonviolence.
Speakers will include Lisa Sharon Harper, Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Jr, Kit Evans-Ford, Rev. Ray East, George Martin, Shane Claiborne, and Rev. John Dear.

Our Story
Thunder Valley CDC was inspired and incubated
by a group of youth and young families
that were reconnecting to cultural spirituality and identity through
spiritual ceremonies.
This reconnection to spirituality was supported by the Thunder Valley spiritual circle. It was our involvement in those ceremonies that inspired us to do more for our communities and for our people. We are a grassroots community development corporation that is guided by the needs and ideas of our community.
Our values are deeply rooted in Lakota values and the continued engagement of our community in this project.
Join us as we celebrate the 1st annual Wakíŋyaŋ Opȟa Oškáte, or Thunder Valley Festival, on Saturday, August 10th!
“If we want our children to be successful, we need to create the space for them to succeed,” said Scotti Clifford, local musician and band member of Spirits Cry. “That’s what Thunder Valley is dedicated to do!”
This year’s Wakíŋyaŋ Opȟa Oškáte will launch with a FREE music concert starting at 7PM—lawn chairs welcome. In addition, we will have food vendors and tours of the Thunder Valley CDC regenerative community development. The celebration will take place alongside the Indigenous Film Festival at the newly opened Thunder Valley Community Center and Bunkhouse located at 672 Thathanka Iyotaka Ave, Porcupine, SD 57772—in the regenerative community development.
“We want to provide a space for creativity and what better way to do that than promote our Indigenous artists.” – DeCora Hawk, Director of Community Engagement for Thunder Valley CDC and event organizer.
Wakíŋyaŋ Opȟa Oškáte is a model for celebration and wóphila to our community through arts and culture. As we build an ecosystem of opportunity that is intentionally disrupting the status quo we are focused on healing ourselves and our communities on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Art is a cornerstone of healing and is deeply rooted in our cultural identity as Lakota people. By creating these models of change we will overpower intergenerational traumas and build momentum towards equity and liberation.

The Islands
Upriver, channels diverge and a unique habitat of small islands and wetlands cry out for preservation. Here, mink, otter, and beaver live along the shore. Though huge container ships plow through the dredged, deep-water channel, this slow, low-lying stretch of the river is a link back to an earlier time. It offers a chance to re-discover our intimate relationship to the natural world.
It’s in the quiet of the river that we get an inkling of how Native Americans lived: trapping fish, building small disposable dwellings, carefully observing the plants and wildlife. We no longer weave fishnets out of bark or make hooks out of deer bone, but just as the Lenape survived by adjusting their lives to the river’s, we’re beginning to understand that we need to respect, not dominate, the environment around us.
The decline of the bald eagle in the Hudson Valley was a direct result of human interference: from the use of pesticides to the destruction of habitat. And it’s humans who are helping to bring the eagle back. Riverkeeper works with scientists and government agencies to reduce pollution, preserve nesting sites, and protect the eagle’s main source of food, fish.

Our current economic model has become unsustainable, it has lost its moral and political legitimacy. In the competitive market economy it has shown a continuous ability to be creative and to increase wealth. In the last decades, there has been a progressive blurring of its link with the global common good and a significant loss of our capacity to regulate it. Economics have been disconnected from ethics and politics as financial capitalism tends to nurture a speculative race where money creates more money without sufficiently investing in the economy of goods and services useful to mankind. Destruction of the planet and its biodiversity, growing inequality and poverty, injustice, exclusion and alienation are some of the dysfunctions likely to have significant negative consequences for future generations.

In cooperation with the WE-Energime-Global Cooperation Turtle Island International Civil Society Organization and in support of peaceful interfaith dialogue, especially in light of Laudato Si, the recent message from Pope Francis on “Care for Mother Earth”, Drawdown Markham will be assisting Global Cooperation Day (GCD, New Zealand) to Celebrate the 800 year Anniversary (in 2019) of the meeting between Saint Francis of Assisi and Sultan Al Kamil in the year 1219 by planting a *Commemorative Tree of Peace* on a property in the East end of Markham (Locust Hill) on Sunday, September 15th.
This event is being done in support of the DD Markham CCAH Collaborative Exchange Project (CEP) and the “Spark for Humanity” project by We Are Mother Earth! (WAME) and GTI Enterprises (cooperative corporation), and for the eventual establishment of our “Go Local” Campaign for community resilience and adaptation, supported by our local Drawdown Markham Interfaith Neighborhood and Business Collaborative (which is part of the EncounterCanada collaborative, which is intended “to localize the Sustainable Development Goals to build ‘Climate Smart’ safe and sustainable communities and cities, pursuant to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction”).
2019 Festival Tickets & Passes
Tickets & passes are now on sale of the 2019 Global Peace Film Festival
Sept. 16-22, 2019
About the Festival
The Global Peace Film Festival, established in 2003, uses the power of the moving image to further the cause of peace on earth. From the outset, the GPFF envisioned “peace” not as the absence of conflict but as a framework for channeling, processing and resolving conflict through respectful and non-violent means.
People of good faith have real differences that deserve to be discussed, debated and contested.
GPFF works to connect expression – artistic, political, social and personal – to positive, respectful vehicles for action and change. The festival program is carefully curated to create a place for open dialogue, using the films as catalysts for change.
Don’t miss out on our Online Global Peace Film Festival, which goes live Monday, Sept. 16. Visit peacefilmest.org to watch the films in our online festival wherever you are, on whatever device you want!

Join the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers, Dr. Henrietta Mann, Nena Thurman and other special guests for the book launch of“Grandmothers Wisdom: Reverence for All Creation”.
The Earth is our loving grandmother. For all time, Cheyenne storytellers, generation after generation, have repeated this belief with both their minds and their hearts. As they say, The Great One, Everywhere Spirit, created the universe and all life with power so vast it defies human imagination. Entirely with the force of thought, the four powerful spirit beings came into existence to witness creation and to eventually safeguard and shelter all life, especially human beings. Next came the water of life, the fire and light of the sun, the infinite sky air, and compassionate Earth. The Great One, Everywhere Spirit, contemplated creation and thought the Earth to be the most beautiful of all, then declared that the Earth be known as our grandmother.
Grandmother Earth is also, more commonly, referred to as Mother Earth. Indeed, she is first woman, first mother, first teacher, oldest mother, and oldest grandmother. The Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers whose magnificent lives are encapsulated in the work of this book represent Earth’s titanic spirit, power, beauty, and love. Individually and collectively, they are rooted in the Earth and carry her wisdom as a perpetual trust. They are committed to sustaining their Earth home and to educating and defending the hearts of all the world’s children.
Please join us in celebrating the manifestation of “Grandmothers Wisdom: Reverence for All Creation”, life and the continuation of this movement of peace, spiritual activism, honoring Mother Earth and future generations.
Seating is first-come, first-served.
Reception and book signing to follow. To join the signing line, we ask that you please purchase a copy of the book available at the event.

“What finally turned me into an activist for artists’ rights was the realization that no musician can afford to sit on the sidelines expecting others to fight for rights we ourselves are unwilling to defend.” Ken Hatfield
MFM Advisory Committee member Ken Hatfield will discuss what copyright is, its origins, its importance and why giant tech corporations are funding Astroturf campaigns to undermine it. He will also cover what individual artists need to do to secure and protect the ownership rights of their music under the recently passed Music Modernization Act (MMA).
About Ken Hatfield: the musician, author and activist
A leading proponent of jazz played on the classical guitar, composer KEN HATFIELD received ASCAP‘s prestigious Vanguard Award in 2006 for “innovative and distinctive music that is charting new directions in jazz.”
Ken’s the leader on 10 commercially released CDs, 9 featuring him performing his original compositions, as a soloist or with his ensembles. He’s published six books of his compositions. In 2005 Mel Bay published his comprehensive instructional book Jazz and the Classical Guitar: Theory and Application and in 2017 included two of his compositions in Contemporary Guitar Composers of the Americas.
Ken’s compositional experience ranges from jazz works for his own ensembles, to solo classical guitar works, choral works, and ballet scores for Judith Jamison, The Washington Ballet Company, and the Maurice Béjart Ballet Company, as well as scores for television and film, including Eugene Richards’ award-winning documentary but, the day came.
Ken continues to lead his own ensembles and be an in-demand sideman. In recent years he has also become an artist rights activist, serving as co-chair of the Artist Rights Caucus of Local 802 and as a member of the Advisory Committee of Musicians for Musicians (MFM). In April 2019 he participated in the United States Copyright Office’s fifth and final roundtable on reform of section 512 of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
About MFM
MFM seeks to bring together musicians from all disciplines, styles, traditions and localities in the cause of their mutual self-betterment. Whether through education, networking or political action, MFM’s ultimate goal is to elevate the work of all musicians to the level of a true profession, one which is recognized and appropriately rewarded by the society in which they live and work. MFM additionally advocates for the creation and maintenance of a fair and sustainable musical ecosystem, one in which participants share equitably in all forms of revenue generated by their work product, whether composed, recorded, or performed live. In the final analysis, we seek to promote all conditions which benefit the musicians’ community and the music created by it, while opposing all those which do them harm.”

History
The Elysabeth Kleinhans Theatrical Foundation was established by Founding Artistic Director, Elysabeth Kleinhans, to create a new, state-of-the-art theater complex to host original and innovative theatrical productions in East Midtown Manhattan.
In 2002, the building at 59 East 59th Street was donated to the Foundation. The building was then gut renovated, creating three brand new theaters, Theater A, Theater B, and Theater C, designed by architect, Leo Modrcin, who collaborated with the Foundation to create an inviting ambiance.
Under the leadership of Founding Artistic Director Elysabeth Kleinhans and Executive Producer Peter Tear, 59E59 Theaters opened its inaugural season in February 2004 with a production of The Stendhal Syndrome produced by then resident company, Primary Stages, in the largest of its three spaces, Theater A. Shortly following, in April 2004, the other two spaces – Theater B and Theater C, opened their doors with productions of Sun Is Shining, by the ground breaking British-Chinese Mu Lan Theatre Company, and My Arm, Tim Crouch’s critically-acclaimed hour-long solo show from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, during the Theaters’ first annual Brits Off Broadway—a season dedicated to premiering new work by Off Broadway-style UK companies.
Since 2004, the theaters have been continuously occupied with shows running from three to seven weeks. For detailed information about past productions, please see our Archives.
In 2017, Elysabeth Kleinhans and Peter Tear stepped down from their roles, and Val Day, a longtime agent with William Morris and ICM, was appointed as Artistic Director. With the addition of a new Artistic Director, 59E59 Theaters moved to the final phase of transitioning from the founding team to a traditional theater management structure, begun in 2012 with the appointment of Brian Beirne as Managing Director

Feeling Mother Earth’s sacredness in our hearts can be profound motivation to act on Her behalf. Many actions are needed now, from calling legislators to attending rallies … art making, creative planning, spreading the word, writing letters to the editor … advocating for clean water, renewable energy … as well as social, racial, and economic justice issues that are inseparable from co-creating a sustainable, thriving world that works for all. We believe these actions are most effective, and most beautiful, when they are inspired by and carried out with love and respect for this beautiful planet, all who reside here, and whatever divine energies are loving us and encouraging us through this Great Turning. This feeling of connection, love, and inspiration is what we seek to create through Planet Heart’s Annual World Peace Earth Day. The Ribbon 2020 – Tangible Hope for No Nuclear War
The Ribbon was founded by Justine Merritt who had visited Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum in 1982. She was greatly affected by the tragedy caused by the Atomic Bomb. After arriving home, it came to her to create a Ribbon, and decided to have a Ribbon event on the 40th memorial anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
It was in the middle of the Cold War between The United States and The Soviet Union, and using nuclear weapons could happen again at a moments notice.
On August 4, 1985, in Washington, D.C., fifteen miles of Ribbons encircled the Pentagon and other important monuments: With the message of “What I cannot bear to think of as lost forever in a nuclear war”. The Atomic Bomb Dome in Hiroshima was also encircled.
The Ribbon International is now a Non Governmental Organization in Association with the United Nations. Since 1985, many Ribbons have been created around the world. People carry Ribbons and pray for Peace at many occasions such as; community memorial gatherings and marches related to nuclear, peace and environmental issues. Ribbons have been exhibited in various places as well.
Nowadays the world is closer to the tragedy of nuclear war or a nuclear accident more than ever before.
On August 1st 2020, the 75th Anniversary of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, The Ribbon International is planning to have a Ribbon event in New York City and in other cities around the world. Please join us, and pray for a world without nuclear weapons and never another nuclear tragedy. (If you cannot join, please pray with us wherever you are.)

How to make Ribbon
(Please also see our website: www.theribboninternational.org)
- Cut a panel of sturdy cloth, double thickness, of any color.
- Finished size: one meter by a half meter (or one yard by a half yard)
- Sew 20cm (9 inch) pieces of ribbon to each corner so the panels may be easily tied together.
- On this panel, sew, paint, write, embroider, weave, knit, tie-dye or use any other kind of ornaments to express what you most love about the world and want to protect from what is endangered on this earth.
- If you wish, write your name and/or any message on the back of the panel.

Pieces to Peace,
There will be no check-in table in Arlington in August
with an aging, greying teacher with a red Bic pen
waiting to grade assignments for more than ten miles of Ribbon.
All the pieces belong there:
all the symbols of a nation’s yearning for peace.
Who would want to judge the pieces?
Choose one as better than another?
Work of Art?
Work of heart?
Who would want to judge the pieces?
Lay aside a child’s rain-touched, felt tipped rainbow
for an artist’s gessoed work?
Who would want to say the eighth-grader’s acrylic basketball court
held more promise that the quilter’s careful stitches
holding her aching heart together after the evening’s late news?
Each one makes The Ribbon:
the pizza, poison ivy, pomegranate seeds
the ladybugs, mid-Hudson bridge,
poetry,
and creed;
each segment makes The Ribbon.
It is in the addition we find the sum:
for it is one yard
plus one yard
plus each yard of cloth
that we honor the diversity,
that we celebrate the unity.
Each piece makes The Ribbon;
each piece brings the piece.
Amen
